Lets play a game. If you were to pack for a holiday, would your beauty case be allowed through the '20 or less' register at your local grocery store?
If you're not sure, you're probably way over that number. If you have three varying sizes of bags (one for makeup, one for hair and one for everything else), you ain't going through that register (at least not without disgruntled 'hrumphs' from those around you) either.
I've learnt in the last few years of travelling how to pack lightweight-beauty, and today will share how I make it through the '20 or less' register (smugly) every time.
Tip 1) It won't kill you to buy shampoo/conditioner/body lotion when you get to *insert destination*. Nivea and L'oreal grace the shelves of supermarkets and chemists around the world, so why lug 400ml of it?
Tip 2) Quit messing around with powdered blushes, eyeshadows and bronzers. This means you can leave behind the blush brush, bronzing brush, and shaping eyeshadow brush. I love Christian Dior's Creme Blush, and Natio's Liquid Bronzer (see below).
Tip 3) If you're going somewhere beachy and warm - sea salt will be your best friend, so go frolic in those waves and let the mist encrust your hair. No blowdrying required. Sexy. If you're headed to Iceland, Sea Salt Spray and other volumising products will come in handy. See O&M Surf Bomb and L'Oreal Elnett Hair Spray.
Tip 4) Compact Hydration. I love free-gift with purchase and hoard miniature moisturisers and masks for my travel case. Go for comfort hydration masks that you can apply post-plane, and after a day in the sun.
Tip 5) Bring products that service both your face AND you body. Revolutionary I know. I loveRosehip Oil from Trilogy because you can use it as a serum on le face, and gloss your pins before a night out. Same deal with Bio-Oil.
Tip 6) You're on holidays you ding-bat! So your usual makeup routine can go out the window because you certainly don't have time when the beach/markets/culturally significant site is waiting for you!
The above is indeed my beauty loot I took to Byron Bay - carry-on luggage only.
