Kloss Is Boss.

Kloss.jpg

Hate it or love it, the bob aka ‘The Lob’ is back and in its finest Klossy form.

She is the Moss of her era, the boss of the runway and has led the forefront of the modernised bob, which is to be known from this point onwards as ‘The Karlie’.

““It’s…it’s…‘the Karlie.’ It’s the Karlie! [Laughs] I want women to someday go in to the hair salon and say, ‘I want the Karlie.’””
— Into The Gloss.

I highly recommend a brave snip after summer to bring your hair back to life.

Here is the long and short of it- above the shoulders, below the shoulders, longer lengths around your face or softer movement internally. The options are endless... TBC with your hair stylist.

If undecided, follow Kloss.

The beauty of this trendy do is that it gives you the chance to have a not so heart-felt good bye with those tired ends, resulting in a modernised and healthy look.

Let’s talk styling.

Forget ironing and blow-drying, keep it au naturel and embrace the natural movement of your hair. There is a no fuss rule to styling this cut; all you need is a wide toothcomb and a leave in moisturizer. I recommend KMS Moist Repair Leave In.

Add this product to damp hair after your shower, comb into place and leave to dry.

After these steps, a well nourished yet slightly dishevelled cool do’ is what will be looking back at you.

style="margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0px; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: 'Open Sans', arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 25.1875px;">The weekend is over and your skin is praising you for the two day (mostly) make-up free breather.

There is nothing like going la'natural to give your skin some dewy tones and angelic feel to start the week. Valentina is our inspiration.  Aside from the fact that this lady is a rare genetic super babe, she is a health guru and her natural look couldn't be better.

Our current go-to morning and night necessity is Vanessa Megan's N.E.O Oil; natures elixir for the skin. With just a few drops of this magic, your skin is filled with organic regenerating, healing and age-defying qualities like no other. N.E.O oil is a pure and aromatic hydrating pick-me-up with key ingredients of argan oil, plant and flower extract, rosemary, lemongrass and vitamin E.

Who would have thought that with a few drops a day, your blood flow is increased, your skin is strengthened and skin cells are given a kick for regeneration.

Good things truly do come in small packages.

Braid Me Up.

rodarte-hair-2.jpg

Time to shake up what's on top with a Rodarte inspired punk braid.

What you will need: Straightening irons or curling tongs, light hold hairspraytexturising lotion or mousse, bobby pins, two rubber bands, and one elastic band which matches your hair colour.

Allow your hair to dry naturally after washing. This look can also be done before your hair completely dries.

If your hair is limp put a very soft natural wave into it.

Grab a section on the left side of your head approximately two inches above your ear.

Braid the piece of hair onto the scalp until around five inches in length. After this braid, change into a plaiting technique. Plait the hair until you reach the middle-back section of the scalp. Tie it off with a rubber band.

Do the same on the right side.  Note: if braiding is not your specialty you can plait the hair. If this is the case, make sure your plaiting away from your face and parallel to the floor.

Once completed join the two sections together by taking a third of the hair from each braid. Join them and plait the three sections all together. Next tie the ends with an elastic tie.

Now say goodbye to those rubber bands that you initially used to tie off your side braids. Carefully cut the bands to help blend the two sides together.

Next we move onto some bun fun.

Take a small section of hair from directly underneath where the two sides meet. The section should sit about 3cm wide. Pull this over the plait and with your hot irons curl the section to prepare for the wrap.

Wrap the curled hair around two fingers and then slide your fingers out whilst securing the rosette using either u-pins or bobby pins. Keep this bun looking unfinished and grungy.

With your index finger and thumb loosen the ponytail plait by lightly rubbing two fingers together with the hair in between. Do this for the whole ponytail.

Accessorise with a studded leather head piece, our pick is Valentino.

Knot On Top.

Screen Shot 2013-07-23 at 11.49.42 PM.png

Cure your winter woes and static strands by gathering them into a chic top knot.

Start with a blow dry.

Stretch your hair out with your fingers whilst drying to keep your locks calm preventing a 'bouffy' effect.  Once dry, follow the front hairline with a comb and your blow dryer directing the hair away from your face to take care of any baby hairs.

Make a pony tail- secure your pony with your hand and spray a light hold hairspray. This will ensure a more refined final look to your top knot, then release your hair and brush it out.

Now style to create a lasting knot.

Tip your head upside down pointing your chin as far away from your chest as possible. Do this step quite quickly to ensure there is no bagging (when the hair droops) at the back of your head. Make another ponytail up nice and high on the top of your head and flip your head back.

Loosely plait your hair and tie it off at the end.

Knot your hair by making a loop as close to the base as possible then feed the end of the plait through the loop. When there is approximately 5-10cm of hair left outside the loop, bring it down and wrap it around the base and secure it with a bobby pin.

If your knot isn't falling into place, secure with bobby pins. Remember that this is an undone look, so next lightly pinch bits of hair at the base of the ponytail and pull towards your face to add more texture.

Finish with some spray on shine.

Voila!

Willing Wet Locks.

Screen Shot 2013-07-23 at 11.40.27 PM.png

If you were to ask me six months ago, I would have said that wet hair in public was likely a sign of extreme laziness. Ask my humble opinion on the matter today? I’d suggest that a lady donning wet locks on the street was likely just sartorially astute. Heavyweights Oscar de la Renta, Prada, Bottega Venetta and Roberto Cavalli all gave damped locks their tick of approval on the runways these past Fashion Weeks. A pronounced side part, a healthy dose of leave-in conditioner, some quality sea-salt spray for texture and you’re on your way. What do we take away from this? Chic has never been easier.

20 Or Less.

Screen Shot 2013-07-23 at 11.43.26 PM.png

Lets play a game. If you were to pack for a holiday, would your beauty case be allowed through the '20 or less' register at your local grocery store?

If you're not sure, you're probably way over that number. If you have three varying sizes of bags (one for makeup, one for hair and one for everything else), you ain't going through that register (at least not without disgruntled 'hrumphs' from those around you) either.

I've learnt in the last few years of travelling how to pack lightweight-beauty, and today will share how I make it through the '20 or less' register (smugly) every time.

Tip 1) It won't kill you to buy shampoo/conditioner/body lotion when you get to *insert destination*. Nivea and L'oreal grace the shelves of supermarkets and chemists around the world, so why lug 400ml of it?

Tip 2) Quit messing around with powdered blushes, eyeshadows and bronzers. This means you can leave behind the blush brush, bronzing brush, and shaping eyeshadow brush. I love Christian Dior's Creme Blush, and Natio's Liquid Bronzer (see below).

Tip 3) If you're going somewhere beachy and warm - sea salt will be your best friend, so go frolic in those waves and let the mist encrust your hair. No blowdrying required. Sexy. If you're headed to Iceland, Sea Salt Spray and other volumising products will come in handy. See O&M Surf Bomb and L'Oreal Elnett Hair Spray

Tip 4) Compact Hydration. I love free-gift with purchase and hoard miniature moisturisers and masks for my travel case. Go for comfort hydration masks that you can apply post-plane, and after a day in the sun.

Tip 5) Bring products that service both your face AND you body. Revolutionary I know. I loveRosehip Oil from Trilogy because you can use it as a serum on le face, and gloss your pins before a night out. Same deal with Bio-Oil.

Tip 6) You're on holidays you ding-bat! So your usual makeup routine can go out the window because you certainly don't have time when the beach/markets/culturally significant site is waiting for you!

The above is indeed my beauty loot I took to Byron Bay - carry-on luggage only.

  2. Mini hair spray (L'oreal Elnett)
  3. Aveda Damage Remedy Treatment for Hair
  4. Maybelline Colossal Lashes Mascara in Black
  5. O&M Sea Salt Spray
  6. Redken Polishing Milk
  7. Clinique Super Balanced Foundation
  8. Clarins Illuminating Primer
  9. London & Berry Kohl Eyeliner in Black
  10. Christian Dior Creme Blush
  11. Avene Face Mist
  12. Natio Liquid Bronze (for body and face)
  13. Clarins Super Comfort Mask
  14. Clarins Two In One Cleanser
  15. Clarins Daily Energizer Lotion SPF15
  16. Nivea Face Veil Sunscreen SPF30
  17. Trilogy Rosehip Oil
  18. Revlon Top & Base Coat (super handy all in one!)
  19. Sally Hansen Salon Manicure in Firey Island
  20. Not Pictured: GHD Eclipse Hair Straightener

*Before you freak, I didn't include deodorant, because like shampoo and conditioner, this can be bought on arrival.

All Natural.

Screen Shot 2013-07-23 at 11.35.11 PM.png
Screen Shot 2013-07-23 at 11.35.19 PM.png

When it comes our beauty routine, a look that is natural and polished is our undying aim. We woke up looking like this? Obviously!

Here is a guide to achieving this versatile look.

1. To attain glowing skin mix a luminiser (Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion in Flash $34.95) with a sheer foundation or tinted moisturiser and apply with fingers to warm up the skin.

2. Apply a dewy cream blush (Stila Convertible Colour in Peony $40) to the high apples of the cheeks and blend upwards along cheekbone.

3. Brush your eyebrows upwards and across to give them a quick tidy. If they need a bit of filling use a soft pencil to perfect the shape (Kevyn Aucoin Precision Brow Pencil $39).

4. Sweep a cream eyeshadow (By Terry Bronze Moon Ombre Blackstar $62) across the lid and blend upwards with your fingers into the socket and buff out any harsh edges.

5. Line the upper and inner rim of your eyes with a black kohl pencil (Nars Larger Than Life Liner in Via Veneto $38) and smudge into lash line.

6. To brighten the eye apply a neutral toned shimmer eyeshadow (Nars Eye Single Abyssinia $39) into the inner corners of the eye in the tear duct.

7. Curl your lashes and apply at least two coats of thickening mascara (Chantecaille Faux Cils in Black $58).

8. To create a full lip apply a neutral pink lipstick (Sunday Riley Lipstick in Marie Antoinette $39) all over lips and dab a champagne coloured gloss (Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss in Modern $42) in the middle of your pout.

9. To finish your look spritz yourself with a signature scent (Byredo Gypsy Water $158/50ml).
